Explaining the MiniBooNE anomalous excess via a leptophilic ALP-sterile neutrino coupling

چکیده
Recently, the MiniBooNE experiment at Fermilab has updated results with increased data and reported an excess of $560.6 \pm 119.6$ electronlike events ($4.7\sigma$) in neutrino operation mode. In this paper, we propose a scenario to account for where Dirac-type sterile neutrino, produced by charged kaon decay through mixing, decays into leptophilic axionlike particle ($\ell$ALP) muon neutrino. The electron-positron pairs from $\ell$ALP can be interpreted as provided that their opening angle is sufficiently small. our framework, consider mass $m^{}_a = 20\,\text{MeV}$ inverse constant $c^{}_e/f^{}_a 10^{-2}\,\text{GeV}^{-1}$, allowed astrophysical experimental constraints. Then, after integrating predicted angular or visible energy spectra obtain total event number, find masses within $150\,\text{MeV}\lesssim m^{}_N \lesssim 380 \,\text{MeV}$ ($150\,\text{MeV}\lesssim 180 \,\text{MeV}$) mixing parameters between $10^{-10} |U_{\mu 4}|^2 10^{-8}$ ($3\times 10^{-7} 8 \times10^{-7}$) explain data.

Sterile neutrino oscillations after first MiniBooNE results
In view of the recent results from the MiniBooNE experiment we revisit the global neutrino oscillation fit to short-baseline neutrino data by adding one or two sterile neutrinos with eV-scale masses to the three Standard Model neutrinos, and for the first time we consider also the global fit with three sterile neutrinos. Four-neutrino oscillations of the (3+1) type have been only marginally all...
متن کاملMiniBooNE and Sterile Neutrinos
Sterile neutrinos may be an important extension to the standard model, and could both hold the key to understanding neutrino mass and mixing as well as play an important role in leptogenesis. In many models, the sterile neutrinos could be light and accessible to current and near term experiments. The MiniBooNE experiment is set up to explore these possibilities in the ∆m region from 0.3 to a fe...
متن کاملSterile neutrinos after the first MiniBooNE results
In view of the recent results from the MiniBooNE experiment we revisit the global neutrino oscillation fit to short-baseline neutrino data by adding one, two or three sterile neutrinos with eV-scale masses to the three Standard Model neutrinos. We find that fourneutrino oscillations of the (3+1) type, which have been only marginally allowed before the recent MiniBooNE results, become even more ...
متن کاملThe Neutrino Flux prediction at MiniBooNE
The Booster Neutrino Experiment (MiniBooNE) searches for νμ → νe oscillations using the O(1 GeV) neutrino beam produced by the Booster synchrotron at the Fermi National Accelerator Laboratory (FNAL). The Booster delivers protons with 8 GeV kinetic energy (8.89 GeV/c momentum) to a beryllium target, producing neutrinos from the decay of secondary particles in the beam line. We describe the Monte...
متن کاملMiniBooNE Results and Neutrino Schemes with 2 sterile Neutrinos: Possible Mass Orderings and Observables related to Neutrino Masses
The MiniBooNE and LSND experiments are compatible with each other when two sterile neutrinos are added to the three active ones. In this case there are eight possible mass orderings. In two of them both sterile neutrinos are heavier than the three active ones. In the next two scenarios both sterile neutrinos are lighter than the three active ones. The remaining four scenarios have one sterile n...
